The UAB baksetball team (10-3) defeated S.F. Austin (7-5) 76-66 for their seventh straight win as they get ready for Conference USA play.
S.F. Austin started the game on a 9-0 run before the Blazers finally got on the board with a basket by Hakeem Baxter.
The Blazers were down by as much as 18 points at the 6 minute mark in the first half before they started their comeback. UAB finished the half on an 18-0 run to tie the game at 31 points. During that run Robert Brown scored 7 points, and Denzell Watts hit a three pointer with 41 seconds left in the half to tie it up.
The game went back-and-forth in the second half, and with just under 11 minutes left in the game S.F. Austin was winning by 6 points. UAB went on another run, and a three pointer by Dirk Williams at at the 6:45 mark gave UAB the lead. A jumper by Brown moments later capped the Blazers 9-0 run.
S.F. Austin kept it close for a little while, but UAB would never trail again in this one.
Chris Cokley led the Blazers in points with 22, and he also snagged 7 rebounds. Brown was the only other UAB player to finish with double figures as he had 14 points, and he also had 7 rebounds.
This was UAB’s last game before they begin conference play this Sunday against Middle Tennessee at Bartow Arena at 2 p.m. Central.
