Western Kentucky defeated UAB Thursday night, ending the nations longest winning streak at 14. The Hilltoppers built a 14 point lead, but the Blazers closed within five at the half, but could never break through and take the lead.
The Hilltoppers were led by Aaron Cosby, who had 20 points, and hit 5 three-pointers. This game shows just how tough it is to win on the road, not only in Conference USA, but in college basketball in general.
It also shows just how impressive winning 14 straight games is as well. No one should dwell on the loss and lose sight of what a remarkable season the Blazers are having.
UAB was led by William Lee, who had 20 points and 7 boards. Nick Norton added 10 points with 6 assists, and Robert Brown had 11.
The Blazers were down by two, but went nearly four minutes without scoring and went 2-of-13 from the field down the stretch.
UAB will look to start a new streak Saturday as they travel to face Marshall. The Herd defeated Middle Tennessee tonight, so the winner of that game will sit alone at the top of the Conference USA standings.
