The Blazers (18-4, 8-1) held on late against a feisty and talented Marshall (11-11, 7-2) by a score of 81 to 78 early Saturday afternoon.
UAB led by as many as 10 through much of the second half, but a Marshall run brought the game within 1 with 7 seconds left. After the pass in Tosin blocked a shot off of a Marshall player with 1.8 seconds left to give UAB the ball and the soon to follow victory.
The Blazers were led by Dirk Williams who had 16 points. Four other Blazers scored in double figures including: William Lee-15, Nick Norton-14, Chris Cokley-13, and Robert Brown-13.
The Thundering Herd were led by James Kelly who had a double-double pitching in 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Personal thoughts and opinions.
We knew coming in to this one that it was going to be a close one due to Marshall’s stellar conference play so far. However, I don’t think we knew it would be quite this close. This team showed a lot of grit and toughness late to stave off the Herd. It was a great road win against a talented team, but the win is much more significant after the disappointing loss to WKU as the Blazers now hold sole possession of 1st place in Conference USA.
The Blazers return home next Thursday, Feburary 4th, at 7 pm against the Panthers of FIU. I hope to see you all there!
Its a great day to be a Blazer!
