UAB added to the history books Saturday night as they became the fastest team in program history to reach 20 wins as they defeated Florida Atlantic 104-67.

The Blazers had seven players in double figures, led by Chris Cokley with 14 points. William Lee was two blocks short of a triple-double, and he had 8 blocks alone in the first half.

The Owls were led by Marquan Botley who had 16 points.

Saturday night marked the annual Bartow Classic, in which UAB honors the “Father of UAB Athletics” Coach Gene Bartow. The announced crowd attendance was 6,211.

More history occurred as Coach Jerod Haase was issued his first ever technical foul in his four years with the Blazers. Coach Haase seemed to honor Coach Gene Bartow as he yelled at the officials and then tossed his sport coat into the stands. The crowd immediately applauded as Coach Haase gave two thumbs up.

Freshmen Thomas Smallwood, who has quickly become a crowd favorite, had a career night as he had 13 points off the bench. The crowd was probably at its loudest all night when Smallwood hit a three-pointer to put the Blazers past the century mark.

The Blazers move to 20-4 (10-1), and now have won 23 consecutive games inside Bartow Arena. UAB travels to Brett Favre country as they take on Southern Miss on Thursday night.
