The UAB Softball Team Will Spend the Weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. For Another Difficult Challenge
UAB (3-8) has already played six ranked teams in their first 11 games of the season, and they’ve been shutout in five of those contests. They’ll get another shot at a ranked team this weekend as they head to Tallahassee, Fla. for the Unconquered Invitational.
They’ll play two on Friday with the first game starting at 11 a.m. Central against Bradley. The Bradley Braves are off to a similar start as the Blazers with a 3-7 record. Then at 1:30 on Friday UAB will face off against Hofstra. The Pride are 6-4 this year, but have yet to pick up any significant wins. We’re looking for a big day on Friday for the Blazers.
On Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Central the Blazers will take on their seventh ranked team of the year as they matchup against 13th ranked Florida State. The Seminoles are 8-3 this year and will have home field advantage, but it’s another chance for UAB to compete with one of the best teams in the country.
The Blazers are scheduled to play another game on Saturday and then one more on Sunday before wrapping it up the weekend.
JoJo Fallen is leading the Blazers with a .433 average and 6 runs scored, while Sara Beth Williamson leads the team with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.
The pitching staff will need to step up this weekend as they currently hold a team ERA of 5.75.
This has the potential to be a big weekend for UAB softball if they can pick up three or four wins on the road.
The Lady Blazers Look to Knock Off WKU in Their Last Road Game
The UAB Women’s Basketball team (13-13, 6-9) will travel for one more time this season as they take on WKU (21-5, 12-3) this Saturday at 2 p.m. Central.
The Blazers lost a tough road game to Marshall on Thursday morning 73-65. Chelsee Black paced the Blazers in that one with 13 points, while Brittany Winborne picked up another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Blazers will need to be clicking on all cylinders to take down the Hilltoppers on Saturday. UAB lost to WKU earlier in the season at Bartow 63-49.
Deanna Kuzmanic and Black are both leading the Blazers averaging just over 13 points a game. Winborne is averaging a double-double on the season at 10.5 points and 10.9 rebounds per game.
Those three will need to have their best game of the year if UAB is going to have any chance of pulling off the upset.
The Blazers are currently ninth in the conference, but have a chance to move all the way up fifth if they win out and get some help.
Let’s Go Lady Blazers!
