It was senior day today at Bartow Arena where the Blazers (24-5, 14-2) defeated the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky (14-15, 6-10) by a score of 71 to 67. The Blazers sent senior Robert Brown out in style and finished the season undefeated at home. The Blazers also clinched at least a share of the Conference USA regular season title.
Western Kentucky was led by Justin Johnson who dropped 19 points. Nigel Snipes, Fredrick Edmond, and Marlon Hunter all scored in double digits with 14, 13, and 10 respectively. Johnson led the Toppers with 7 rebounds, and Edmond had 6 assists. The Hilltoppers shot 47.1% from the floor and 46.2% from beyond the arc.
The Blazers were led by no other than Robert Brown who scored 12 points. Tosin Mehinti and Lewis Sullivan also scored in double figures with 10 apiece. Sullivan led all Blazers in rebounds with 5. Nick Norton had 6 assists to lead the Blazers. The Blazers shot 50% from the floor and 43.8% from beyond the arc.
What a home season. Undefeated at home and at least a part of the Regular Season Title. Robert Brown’s speech at the end of the game was very emotional and I definitely got a little choked up myself.
The game played out a lot like I figured it would in terms of being back and forth from wire to wire. Shooting today was great all around, but free throws still concern me, however. Lewis was a big spark today with his shots in the paint. Other than free throws this team is on fire and should make some serious noise in the coming weeks!
Its a great day to be a Blazer!!
