UAB Softball Loses to 13th Ranked FSU in Unconquered Invitational Championship Game

The Blazers (5-11) started out the weekend with a tough 9-4 loss to Bradley, but bounced back with a 12-4 win over Hofstra. In the win Caitlin Attfield was 2-3 with a run and 3 RBIs.

On Saturday they lost their first game of the day 10-0 against 13th ranked Florida State, but found themselves matched up against Hofstra again and came away with another win 5-2 that sent them to the championship game on Sunday. Cara Goodwin had a solid outing on the mound in the win giving up just 2 earned runs on 6 hits and 4 walks with 5 strikeouts over 7 innings.

The Blazers faced Florida State again in the Tournament Championship game, but once again fell 10-0 with JoJo Fallen getting the lone UAB hit in the game.

It wasn’t a great weekend for the Blazers as you would have hoped they would get at least three wins, but making it to the Tournament Championship was definitely exciting.

The tough out-of-conference schedule continues for UAB this week as they take on third ranked Auburn Tuesday at home before playing Samford on Wednesday.

WBB Comes up Short against WKU on the Road

The UAB Women’s Basketball team (13-14, 6-10) went on the road to take on the Hilltoppers but fell short 64-55.

Brittany Winborne was the team’s top scorer with 15 points, and she also led the team in rebounds with seven. Deanna Kuzmanic was the only other Blazer to score double-digit points with 11.

The Lady Blazers come back home to finish out the regular season with a game against FIU on Thursday and then FAU on Saturday at Bartow arena. Both of those teams are behind UAB in the Conference USA standings, so UAB has a chance to end the regular season on a good note.

They still have a chance to finish as high as sixth in the conference standings heading into the Tournament at Legacy Arena.

Make sure you come out and support the Lady Blazers this week as they try and finish strong.
