UAB (24-5, 14-2) closes out its regular campaign this week on the road against the Golden Panthers of FIU (13-16, 7-9) and the Owls of FAU (7-22, 5-11).

The Blazers will play FIU Thursday evening at 6 p.m. These games could very well be trap games for the Blazers in that they have already clinched the number one seed for the conference tournament and have won the outright regular season title. Last season, the Blazers dropped both of these games heading into the conference tournament, effectively killing any and all momentum – or so we all thought. The Blazers will look to win these games and keep momentum up heading into conference tournament week.

Lee-vs-FIU

Last Time Out.

FIU defeated FAU by a score of 71 to 63 back on February 27. Both Daviyon Draper and Adrian Diaz recorded double-doubles that game. Draper had 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Diaz had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blazers avenged an earlier conference game loss against Western Kentucky by a score of 71 to 67. The Blazers had three players in double figures in scoring that game. Robert Brown had 12, while Lewis Sullivan and Tosin Mehinti both contributed 10 apiece.

Game Thoughts and Prediction.

As mentioned above, the Blazers dropped both of these games last season and will look to avoid that same fate again this year. Complacency will, hopefully, not be a problem, even though we have the number one seed and Regular Season Title on lock already.

The biggest key to the game, in my opinion, is senior Adrian Diaz. If the Blazers can get him in foul trouble early then his shot blocking talents will not be able to help FIU as he will be sitting on the bench. If UAB’s big men can keep Diaz in check, then the game should be very manageable.

When the Blazers faced FIU earlier this season at Bartow, UAB was able to hold Diaz to 14 points and just 7 rebounds. If they can duplicate that performance then the Blazers should be OK in this one.

If UAB can play a 40 minute game with no complacency and make their free throws, FREE throws, then the Blazers should prevail.
