The Blazers (25-5, 15-2) defeated the Golden Panthers of FIU (13-17, 7-10) for their record-tying 25th win of the season by a score of 77-60. This is also the first time a visiting team in this series, now 3-2 in UAB’s favor, has won.
FIU was led by Donte McGill in scoring dropping 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Daviyon Draper was the only other Golden Panther with double-digit scoring with 13 points. There were three Golden Panthers with 6 rebounds apiece in Adrian Diaz, Donte McGill, and Daviyon Draper. Overall, FIU shot 43.1 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. The most telling stat is that FIU committed 22 turnovers, while only having 7 assists.
The Blazers were led by Dirk Williams who contributed 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. William Lee had 14 and Robert Brown had 11 to round out the players with double-digit scoring. HaHa also led the Blazers in rebounds with seven. The Blazers shot 46 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Blazers also had 18 assists on 29 made baskets.
So much for being potentially complacent, huh? The Blazers played well the entire game and never trailed. The only concern, I bet you can guess, is still free throw shooting. Shooting 61.1 percent from the charity stripe is not good. Other than that, it was a fantastic game and a good win!
The Blazers return to action Saturday in Boca Raton, Florida to face the FAU Owls.
Its a great day to be a Blazer!
