Well, this is it. The final regular season game of this season. What a ride, huh? A 25 win season, top 10 in the nation in many stat categories, conference regular season champs, and the list goes on and on. It all comes down to this.
The Blazers (25-5, 15-2) will square off down in sunny Boca Raton, Fla. with the Owls of Florida Atlantic (7-23, 5-12) on Saturday. Last season, like I mentioned in the FIU preview, the Blazers dropped BOTH of these games. However, UAB did throttle FAU earlier this season 104-67.
Last Time Out.
The Owls faced off with MTSU at home Thursday the 3rd and lost 76-59. Two players scored in double figures this game. Jeantal Cylla had 14 and Adonis Filer had 16. The Owls also only shot 34.5 percent from the floor.
The Blazers defeated the FIU Golden Panthers 77-60 (looks rather similar to the score mentioned above). With that win, the Blazers tied a school record for wins in a season. UAB was led by Dirk Williams, who has really cranked up the shooting consistency, who contributed 17, and William Lee added 14 of his own points.
Preview and Prediction.
Honestly, I expect this game to go much like it did when these two teams payed in Bartow Arena earlier this season. FAU will keep it close up until about halftime, but the depth and talent of the bench for UAB will prove too much for the Owls in the second half. William Lee also had 8 (!!!) blocks in the first half in the last meeting, and was only 2 blocks away from a triple-double.
All in all, if UAB can just play like they are capable of with zero complacency, this game should be a victory for the Green and Gold.
