CHAMPS

Early Saturday afternoon the Blazers (26-5, 16-2) survived a close game against the FAU Owls (7-24, 5-13). The Blazers won by a score of 73 to 70 after a William Lee block (shocker right?) with about 8 seconds left to preserve a 1 point lead. This was the Blazers 26th win this season, setting a school record for wins in a season, and also setting a school record for wins on the road in a season.

The Owls were led in scoring by Jeantal Cylla who contributed 16 points. Ronald Delph, Nick Rutherford, and Adonis Filer also scored in double digits with 14, 13, and 10 points respectively. Ronald Delph led all players in rebounds with 12, completing the double double. The Owls shot 41% from the floor and 32% from beyond the 3-point line.

The Blazers were led in scoring by Robert Brown who scored 17 points, leading all scorers. William Lee, Tosin Mehinti, and Chris Cokley rounded out the Blazers double digit scoring with 15, 11, and 10 points respectively. Chris Cokley grabbed 9 boards to lead the Blazers. UAB shot 39.7% from the floor and 30% from beyond the arc.

Personal Thoughts.

This game was a lot closer than it should have been, but a win is a win. UAB is rolling into the conference tournament next week on a 5 game win streak.

Free throws were an issue again, but we were slightly better today, making just over 70% of them. Had we made all of them, or at least 90% of them, we would have won by a much larger margin.

But again, a win is a win, so no complaints here. Be sure to skip work, class, and any family functions to be at Legacy Arena this coming Thursday at noon for the Conference USA Tournament!

Its a great day to be a Blazer!
