Thank-you-RobertRobert Brown, a name that will forever be etched into the minds of UAB – and Iowa State – fans, and in my opinion should have a jersey hanging in the rafters of Bartow.

As a Blazer Band member I have had the opportunity, scratch that, the privilege of watching you play and develop on and off the court. You have been an active presence as a leader and player, and it has been an honor to watch.

Watching you knock down shot after shot, crazy quadruple teamed dunks (LSU game last year), and your hilarious reactions and facial expressions to whistles has been an absolute blast.

My first Blazer Basketball season as a student I watched Chad Frazier and company defeat the Tar Heels of North Carolina in Bartow Arena and re-fell in love with the game of basketball.

The next year, you began your campaign as a Blazer and quickly became my favorite player with your passion and energy. You play the game how it should be played, whether it be confidently knocking down clutch 3-pointers with less than a minute left against the Big-10 Champs, passing the ball to an open teammate for the assist, or playig lock-down defense.

The reactions to calls from referees, even though completely warranted, are hilarious. The energy you put forth on the court is insane, for example: your career-high 29 points against BYU.

I know I’m just some random band member who yells and jumps around like a moron, but thank you for all you have done for this school.

UAB is a relevant basketball power again thanks in no small part to your efforts in your time in the Green and Gold.

I know I’m not the only one who feels this way either, all of UAB and the city of Birmingham thanks you!

We all wish you well and good luck in your future endeavors, and you will always be welcome in Birmingham.

And if you ever find yourself at the Rec Center and want to play some ball, shoot me a message, I’d be honored to be embarrassed publicly in there.

Sincerely, some random band geek with a saxophone,

Connor Gentry
