Obviously the news of the departure of Coach Jerod Haase has sparked many rumors, and lists of potential candidates have sprung up all over. Well, here is another one for you.

Some reputable sources have stated that one time UAB assistant and current Arkansas assistant coach TJ Cleveland has contacted several UAB boosters with interest in the head coaching position before the Haase to Stanford news was made official.

This would make sense seeing that he is a Birmingham native and former assistant under past head coach Mike Anderson here at UAB. He was a prep star at Minor High School, as well as leading them to a state championship while being All-state and Metro Player of the Year.

He did interview the last time the position came open here, but later stated he wasn’t quite ready for a head coaching job. He was believed to be a finalist for the position before following Anderson to Missouri and finally to Arkansas.

This would be a big and interesting development for UAB as he is a phenomenal recruiter having pieced together several impressive classes at Arkansas, as he is the head recruiter there, and is currently in the process of putting together a Top 25 ranked class. It would also be interesting because he has stated before that he wants to end his career in Birmingham. This could mean, if he were hired, that UAB could have a head coach for years to come.

Personally I feel like this could be a good hire if it were to happen, but we will just have to wait and see how things play out!
