The UAB baseball team (9-15, 2-4) has still yet to win a game on the road this season as they were swept in Boca Raton over the weekend by 19th ranked Florida Atlantic (18-4, 5-1).
On Friday the Blazers actually held a 2-1 lead after three and a half innings, but the Owls scored two in the fourth to take the lead and never gave it up as they won by a final of 5-3. Brewer Hicklen was 3-4 in the loss with a run scored. Walks killed the Blazers as they gave up eight free passes.
In game two the Blazers led again after three and a half innings, but FAU took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and pulled away late for the 7-3 win. Carter Pharis was 3-4 in this game with a run scored. Walks once again became an issue as the pitching staff walked nine FAU batters.
FAU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game three thanks to an error and a hit batter. That would be all they needed as the Blazers only managed 4 hits in a 5-0 loss. Esteban Tresgallo was 2-4 at the plate.
The pitching staff did their best to hold down a potent FAU offense, but too many walks in the first two games – and a lack of offense – doomed the Blazers from picking up a win over the weekend.
The Blazers will be back home this Tuesday to face Alabama A&M at 6:30 p.m., and they’ll remain at home on the weekend as they host Western Kentucky at Young Memorial Field.
