UAB softball will host the No. 2 Auburn Tigers in a Wednesday afternoon match up at Mary Bowers Field starting at 4 p.m. CT.

UAB is coming off of its first Conference USA series loss as they had a tough weekend out in Ruston against La Tech. UAB used every pitcher on its staff this weekend. Sunday was probably one of the toughest games with UAB losing 15-7 after allowing 3 home runs in the fifth inning alone. Walks also plagued UAB  this past weekend.

Cara Goodwin has been the work horse, but Madison Hir has come on recently and done an outstanding job. Look for UAB to try to limit the walks in this game to have a chance. This pitching staff can rack up the strike outs, and they are going to need a huge night to give this team a chance.

Auburn will come into this game with a team batting average of .331 to UAB’s .263. However, Auburn is holding their opponents to a very low .195 average. UAB’s hitting has come alive lately, and that trend needs to continue. Auburn’s run differential is also ridiculous as they’ve scored 358 runs to their opponents 75.

On a positive note, DP Mary Warren had a monster week last week with 11 RBI’s. Look for her to continue coming up in big ways.

UAB is going to have to have a very fundamentally sound game and some big time plays to pull off this huge upset. Let’s hope it goes in UAB’s favor. Coach Townsend said she wanted a tough schedule; well, it doesn’t get much tougher than this.

Game time is 4 p.m. Come out and support the Blazers in this huge match up.

Go Blazers!
