UAB softball’s shortstop, Caitlin Attfield, was drafted as the ninth pick by the Dallas Charge tonight.

The Charge are one of six teams in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league. NPF was originally known as the Women’s Pro Softball League. It started in 2014 with just four teams, but has since added two more.

The 2015 Conference Player of the Year and preseason favorite to repeat for the award is having a solid season so far. In 2016 she is batting .376, including two triples. She also has an outstanding 96.9 fielding percentage.

As a junior, Attfield batted .473. She holds the all-time UAB records for career batting average (.417), on base percentage (.470), hits and slugging percentage.

She is the first ever UAB softball player to be drafted, so this is a huge accomplishment.

Congratulations Caitlin Attfield! I hope it is awesome, and your UAB family knows you will do amazing and represent us well.

Attfield and the Blazers will be back in action at Mary Bowers Filed this weekend as they take on Florida International with two games on Saturday and the finale on Sunday.

Go Blazers!
