As everyone probably knows, the UAB Football team was cut along with the Bowling and Rifle teams in December of 2014. One of the big questions after this decision was reached, was whether or not the Marching Blazers would continue marching even without a football program, because that is what bands are known for performing at.
As it turns out, yes. We marched (jokes) on and exhibitioned at many High School and National Competitions such as: Sparks in the Park at Spain Park High School; the Phenix City High School Marching Invitational; Bands of America Regional Competition at Powder Springs, Georgia; Dothan High School’s Southern Showcase; Jacksonville State University’s Contest of Champions; Pell City High School’s Marching Invitational; and the Bands of America Super Regional in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Marching Blazers also marched down the streets of Magic Kingdom.
As you can see, the band was still very, if not more, busy than with football. Last year’s show theme was entitled “Heroes” and included many heroic songs to remind us that anyone can be a hero.
The Marching Blazers 2015 field show.
The Marching Blazers are anxiously awaiting #theReturn of UAB football in 2017, but will have to march another season of exhibitions at various high schools to recruit. The Marching Blazers will also be performing at the three Football Scrimmages that are happening this coming Fall as well. As soon as a performance schedule is finalized we will post it so that you can go support the Marching Blazers!
The theme of the show this year is “Hollywood” and will include music from many blockbuster hits. Here is a short preview of what is to come this season.
As always, it is a great day to be a Blazer!
