The Blazers had quite the weekend on their home diamond, Young Memorial Field. UAB’s three win series sweep over Middle Tennessee positions them 7th in CUSA baseball standings. The Blazers have three game series against ODU, Marshall, FIU, and Charlotte left on their schedule. The top 8 teams will be invited to the CUSA Championship hosted by Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Back to back series wins over Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee give the Blazers plenty of momentum going into this week’s three game series against ODU in Norfolk, Va. The Monarchs sit just two spots behind UAB in the standings. Only one CUSA team (Marshall) of the remaining four left on the schedule is ahead of UAB in the standings. However, 3 of the final 4 series will be on the road.

The girls in green put on an impressive display over the weekend only rivaled by the picturesque high arid desert rolling hills in the background of UTEP’s Helen of Troy softball complex. Coach Marla’s squad picked a great time to complete their first series sweep with just two more CUSA series left in the regular season.
Before the Blazers welcome UTSA to Birmingham for a three game series next weekend they’ll travel to Oxford, Miss., to play Ole Miss on Wednesday. This game can be seen on the SEC Network at 6 p.m.
After the series sweep over the Miners, UAB is now in sole possession of first place in the CUSA Western division with a 11-6 conference record.

Follow along with their play this week — HERE.
All 13 men’s golf teams, five ranked among the top 100 nationally, began the first round the morning of April 24 as the 2016 CUSA Men’s Golf Championship got underway at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark. The championship consists of 54 holes of stroke play on the par 72, 6,969-yard course over three days, April 24-26.
Following the results of stroke play, the top four teams will advance to a seeded match play round to be held on Wednesday, April 27. The team champion after match play will receive CUSA’s automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. CUSA became the first league to include match play, which reflects the NCAA format, when it introduced this structure for its tournament last season.
Seeding is based on the current Golfstat rankings, making No. 37 UAB this year’s top seed. The Blazers, defending champion No. 60 North Texas and No. 76 Charlotte opened the first round at 9:20 a.m. UAB sophomore Lee Hodges and North Texas junior Cory Churchman are the only two returning members of the 2015 CUSA All-Tournament Team. The Mean Green boasts two of the league’s top freshmen in Thomas Rosenmueller and Ian Snyman as the pair combined for three CUSA Golfer of the Week honors this season. — VIA Conference USA
