UAB Softball

This week was not kind to the softball team. UAB went 1-4 this week dropping two mid-week games to Chattanooga and Ole Miss. They also lost the weekend series to UTSA going 4-1, 0-2, and 1-3.

This week saw a trial by fire for Freshman pitcher Tori Perkins against Ole Miss. She will develop well, just a hard place to start on.

However, this weekend was senior weekend and after Sunday’s game the seniors were honored. This class has won 126 games, they have a regular season title, two NCAA regional appearances, and one super regional.

The best memory to me was the upset of defending champs UCLA to win the regional and advanced to super regional. In the super regional they almost upset Florida on a close play at home.

This class has been great to UAB, but will be a hard one to watch go. This class also has a future pro in Caitlin Attfield. Best of luck in the future en devours.

Softball will play a mid-week make up game at Lipscomb, and then the final series in North Texas.

Good luck ladies!

UAB Baseball

Baseball saw their road struggles continue. They went to Norfolk and dropped the series 2-1 to Old Dominion. UAB is now 2-14 on the road.

They saw too many men left on base, and pitching just had too many problems this weekend. UAB now drops to eighth place in the standings, which would still put them in the Conference USA Tournament.

This is a tough stretch as they stay on the road for nine of the last 14 games, including 2-of-3 Conference USA series. This is a desperate stretch where UAB will need every win possible to get to the tournament.

Time to buckle down and finish strong boys.

UAB Football

UAB had four players drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft from the 2014 team. Jordan Howard was taken in the fifth round by the Chicago Bears. Jake Ganus was signed to the Minnesota Vikings. Jontavius Morris signed with the Tampa Bay Bucs. Lastly, Rolan Milligan signed to the Dallas Cowboys.

Congratulations to the former Blazers. You can bet they will work the hardest of any players on the team.

It was an up and down week for UAB, but look for a strong finish to the year.

Go Blazers!
