This Saturday and Sunday, UAB softball (24-28, 13-8) will be playing their final series of the regular season against North Texas before the Conference USA tournament.
UAB is coming off of a tough series loss to UTSA. While UAB’s pitching did a decent job last weekend, the bats could not provide the run support. For the weekend, UAB batted .248, which is just a shade under their yearly average of .268.
One other problem is runners left stranded on base. While the first game did not see that problem, in the two games after that UAB left 16 stranded in two games. That shows UAB hasn’t had problems getting on base, it’s trying to get those runners in that has been a problem.
That being said, this weekend should be favorable for UAB. They are traveling to North Texas, which has the worst record in Conference USA. While North Texas is hitting a decent .280, they cannot keep their opponents quiet. Opponents are batting .310 against them with 50 home runs. The middle of the UAB lineup will be hungry to send some deep. The pitching staff is also not lights out for North Texas with a combined ERA of 4.35.
Look for a great bounce back weekend for softball. Currently they are tied with UTEP in the west and sit what would be second overall behind an incredibly hot FAU team (19-2 in CUSA). After this weekend, the Conference USA tournament kicks off at North Texas next Thursday. It will be tough, but look for UAB to pull some upsets.
Good luck ladies, and Go Blazers!
