  • Latest Update: After a stellar junior season, Thomas has seen his offers jump from the Sun Belt to the SEC. The Kell star received offers from South Alabama in March, Middle Tennessee in April, and Mississippi State recently. Ten other schools have offered the rising star with that number likely to increase going into his senior season.

When watching Brian Thomas work on the court, I can’t help but see flashes of Chris Cokley’s time at Savannah High. The measurables of the two are quite similar, and their style of play even more so. As a junior Thomas’ hands and footwork, in my opinion, are further along than Cokley’s, and his shot blocking instincts are reminiscent of William Lee’s.

Thomas is a traditional back to the basket post player with a developing mid-range game. Due to his dominance in the paint he isn’t asked to extent his shot away from the basket often. However, his shooting form is very consistent and I could see him being effective in and out of the paint at the college level.

The need for an interior forward in the 2017 class is as high as any position in my opinion. With Cokley and Lee departing next season, Ehsan will need a post anchor. Brian Thomas has the build and upside to be a star in the Conference USA, which I feel is a perfect conference for him to flourish and showcase his game.
