For the third straight year, and first as a professional, former UAB golf great Paul Dunne has qualified for The Open Championship hosted by Royal Troon. The Greystones, Ireland native secured first place in qualifying at The Marquess’ Course outside London with a one stroke advantage over England’s Ryan Evans in 36 holes. The Woburn Golf Club has proven to be quite the fit for the young golfer as he’s won The Open qualifying there three consecutive years.

Dunne On the European Tour

Since starting his professional career on the European Tour in November of 2015, Dunne has competed in 12 events with his 13th place finish at the BMW International Open proving to be his most impressive and financially lucrative. The European Tour may not capture the attention stateside that the PGA does, but with the likes of Danny Willett (Master’s winner), Louis Oosthuizen (Major winner), and Lee Westwood all appearing in more than 10 events this year there’s little drop in competition.

Dunne is currently ranked 109th of 261 in the Race to Dubai Rankings. The top 60 available European Tour players will qualify for the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai starting on November 17th. Through seven months of his first year on the European Tour, Dunne has accumulated roughly $150,000 in winnings. KPMG, Piguet, Bank of Ireland, Titleist, and the Davy Group are Dunne’s major sponsors.
