Kailon Carter (new prospect – commit) 6-foot-3, 210 pound wide receiver from Fresno City College in Fresno, Calif.

  • Twitter: @KCarter_18
  • Latest Update: Carter is an under the radar guy who committed to UAB last month. He has been on one heck of a journey thus far, which started out with him in high school being recruiting by schools such as Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Miami, & Texas A&M. Grades prevented him from going D1 and he instead enrolled at Navarro College where he only played in 4 games his freshman season. That offseason he found himself suspended for missing team meetings before redshirting the next year. Because of his slow start at Navarro, he began looking at other options that would enable him to showcase his overall skill set. His search ended with him transferring to Fresno City College where he had quite an impressive sophomore season. Through six games, Carter had nearly 700 yards receiving and caught 8 touchdown passes. He finished the year with 54 catches for 991 yards and 10 touchdowns. Carter is on track to graduate and enroll at UAB later this month.

Lucious Stanley signed with UAB over Toledo.

David Acfalle – Acfalle committed to the Blazers while on campus for UAB’s “Inferno” recruiting event, which was held on Saturday, July 30th. The talented in-state prospect from Hewitt-Trussville was a UAB lean heading into the event and made things official on social media early that day. He’s a big time pick up for UAB for a couple of different reasons. First – he’s a local guy. Hewitt-Trussville’s football program has been on the rise in the last couple of seasons with a new coaching staff & brand new facilities. The talent level there is as good, if not the best, as it has ever been. Second – the Blazers beat out regional and some national competition to get him. Acfalle held offers from a total of 14 schools including: Air Force, Illinois, Navy, Southern Miss, Troy, & Western Kentucky. Lastly, Acfalle was a package deal with high school teammate, Grayson Cash – who you’ll read more about later in this update.

Jaylond Adams – Took an unofficial visit at Southern Miss on 7/30/16.  Adams is a guy who I initially thought UAB had a pretty good shot of landing. I’m sure he’s still got some interest, but I was surprised to hear that he was not in attendance for UAB’s most recent recruiting event.

Tyron Arnett (new prospect) 6-foot-1, 180 pound wide receiver from Pahokee HS in Pahokee, FL

Will Boler III (new prospect – commit) 6-foot, 180 pound safety from Opelika HS in Opelika, AL

  • Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3889679/will-boler-
  • Twitter: @iam_wbiiix21
  • Latest Update: This is the first time we have written about Boler but he has been on the UAB coaching staffs’ radar for a while. He was another in-state guy who attended UAB’s recruiting event in late July. Unlike some others, he waited a couple of days before announcing on social media his attentions of attending UAB. He picked the Blazers over offers from Charleston Southern, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Memphis, South Alabama, & Western Kentucky.

Spencer Brown – Brown’s first offer came from UAB and he rewarded the Blazers with a commitment last month. The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devil plans on splitting time at both defensive end & running back this upcoming season, while he is projected to play running back on the D1 level.

Grayson Cash As mentioned earlier in this update, Cash committed to UAB along with his high school teammate – David Acfalle –  on their unofficial visit last month. Cash is an athlete who plays both sides of the ball. As a senior, he’s expected to take a larger role at running back & he should spend a lot of time in the end zone playing for the Huskies’ up-tempo offense.

Bryan Crawford (new prospect) 6-foot-1, 282 pound offensive lineman (center) from Pahokee HS in Pahokee, FL

Jack Franklin took an unofficial visit to Coastal Carolina the weekend of July 23rd – 24th.

Jabauri Garner (new prospect) 6-foot-3, 300 pound defensive lineman from Florence HS in Florence, AL

  • Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4109234/jabauri-garner
  • Twitter: @Baurigarner_
  • Latest Update: Garner was on campus at UAB in late July for an unofficial visit. His offer list consists of Army, Citadel, Jackson State, Mercer, Navy, Samford, & Union College.

Kobe Griffin 6-foot, 195 safety from Charles Henderson HS in Troy, AL

  • Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2685485/kobe-griffin
  • Twitter: @_kobe4_
  • Latest Update: After receiving his 1st offer from UAB in late July, Griffin attended UAB’s “Inferno” event and verbally committed on that same day. The Blazer coaching staff got help on this one from some close friends – former UAB coaches Mike Bennefield & Chuck Dunn who now coach at Charles Henderson HS.

Deonte Henson picked up offers from Alabama State, Lamar, & Sam Houston State.

Stephon Huderson  picked up offers from Southern Miss & Tulane while he was on an unofficial visit. Tulane won him over while he was on campus & he committed to the Green Wave shortly after. A somewhat surprising twist as most believed he would end up at Southern Miss.

Khalil Keith picked up an offer from Indiana.

Austin Miller (new prospect) 6-foot-2, 155 pound wide receiver from Heard County HS in Franklin, GA

Eugene Minter, Jr. Picked up offers from Army & Georgia Southern. Minter remains a huge target for the Blazer coaching staff but things seem to have cooled off with him recently – meaning I just haven’t heard anything new. I still view UAB as the “team to beat” but only time will tell.

Desmond Nisby (new prospect) 6-foot-2, 240 pound running back from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif.

  • Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3748565/desmond-nisby
  • Twitter: @DesmondNisby
  • Latest Update: Nisby committed to UAB shortly after attending the Blazers’ “Inferno” recruiting event on Saturday, July 30th. He rushed for 608 yards and 5 touchdowns his freshman season at Santa Rosa College but will play his sophomore season at Diablo Valley College where he is expected to take on a bigger role. He is built like a machine and his highlights brought back memories of Jordan Howard ripping through defenses for the Blazers during the 2014 season. Nisby is someone I’d consider “under the radar” but schools such as Iowa State & Kansas have already discovered the gem from Calif. Expect other big time programs to hear about him in the coming months & extend offers while UAB hopes they can hold onto him until he signs & enrolls in the spring.

Kevin Nixon (new prospect) 6-foot-2, 220 pound linebacker from Peach County HS in Fort Valley, GA

Patrick Nuss (new prospect) 6-foot-7, 280 pound offensive lineman from Vestavia Hills HS in Vestavia Hills, AL

  • Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3085685/patrick-nuss
  • Twitter: @PatrickNuss64
  • Latest Update: Nuss was on campus for UAB’s “Inferno” recruiting event on Saturday, July 30th. His recruiting has really picked up since April, when he picked up his first offer from Mercer. Since then, he has seen 10+ more offers come in from the schools such as UAB, Air Force, Georgia State, Louisiana Monroe, Samford, & Western Kentucky. UAB was the latest to offer in late July. (8/2016)

Darius Pittman– A lot has gone on in Pittman’s recruitment over the last month. First, he picked up an offer from WKU. Later he released his Top 3, which consisted of Colorado State, South Alabama, & WKU. Lastly, he officially committed to WKU.

Anthony Rush picked up an offer from USM.

Drew Tejchman (new prospect) 6-foot, 190 pound wide receiver from North Cobb HS in Kennesaw, GA

Will Wallace took an official visit to Coastal Carolina earlier this month.

Jartavious Whitlow picked up his 5th offer from Troy.

Kamden Young (new prospect) 6-foot-1, 175 pound defensive back from Gainesville HS in Gainesville, GA

Tre Young committed to Troy.

Hunter Brannon picked up an offer while on a visit to Alabama & committed on the spot.

Kris Reed committed to Tulane.

Moris Lugo committed to Akron.

DaVontae McCrae committed to Louisville.

Stephon Huderson  picked up offers from Southern Miss & Tulane while he was on an unofficial visit. Tulane won him over while he was on campus & he committed to the Green Wave shortly after. A somewhat surprising twist as most believed he would end up at Southern Miss.

Jaquan Beaver (new prospect) 6-foot, 190 pound defensive end from Booker T. Washington HS in Miami, FL

Tyrese Heard & Antonio Heard were the first two c/o 2018 prospects to commit to UAB. The Heard brothers first visited UAB back in June. The connection here is they’re members of the Southern Xpress 7v7 team coached by former UAB player, Byron De’Vinner. De’Vinner had this to say on social about the Heard brothers’ commitment to UAB, “UAB picked up the biggest commitment in school’s history in 2018 4 star Tyrese Heard and his brother Antonio Heard – who reminds you of J.J. Nelson.” Tyrese boasts offers from Oregon & Purdue in addition to the Blazers.

Zac Montgomery picked up an offer from Northern Colorado & also took an unofficial visit to Marshall in late July.

Terrell Perriman (new prospect) 5-foot-9, 170 pound wide receiver from Central HS in Miami, FL

  • Latest Update: Picked up his 1st offer from UAB after attending the Blazers’ “Night of Champions” prospect camp. He is a high school teammate of 2017 commit, Justin Whisenhunt.

The Daily Dragon has been informed DJ Law is finishing up one class before he is clear to head to UAB. His final class ends this week so we should hear something definite by this weekend if not earlier. All signs are still pointing towards the talented running back from the Netflix series, “Last Chance U”, enrolling at UAB for the fall semester.
