Since the basketball recruiting period started on September 9, activity has increased heavily on the recruiting front.

Going forward there will be seven weekends left before the recruiting period ends November 6. The early signing date period will run from November 9-16.

Last year UAB signed Javian Williams and Nate Darling in the early signing period.

In 2014 UAB signed William Lee, Jarvis Calhoun, Lewis Sullivan, and Chris Cokley in the early signing period.

Here’s a look at some of the tentative and expected visits coming up for UAB:

September 24th: Makhtar Gueye

October 8th: Galin Smith

October 13th (Hoops on The Green): Christian Negron

October 15th:

Recruiting Updates

Makhtar Gueye: The 6-foot-9, 210 pound power forward visited Grand Canyon in late August and Old Dominion in early September.

Gueye’s recruitment has been teetering on mid-major type interest to now high-majors getting more actively involved. Louisville has been showing Gueye attention for some time now but has yet to offer. In our opinion, DePaul could be the sleeper considering Gueye is originally from Lake Forest, Ill.

It’s also worth noting Gueye has moved from the Winchendon School in Massachusetts to the Aspire Basketball Academy in Arizona for his senior season.

UAB will look to make an impact on Gueye during his visit this weekend, but don’t be surprised to see Gueye sign in the spring instead of the early period.

Galin Smith: The big man from Mississippi is becoming a hot commodity in the South. Smith completed his official visit to LSU this past weekend.

UAB will have to wait out a visit to Alabama this weekend – and potentially a yet to be announced visit (Memphis?) the weekend of October 1 – before hosting the big man October 8.

Excerpts of note from the pay for access article:

Smith described the in-home visit with the Alabama staff as “really good” and that they showed him a bit of how they’d like to use him on the court.

Coach Avery Johnson’s description of his plan for student athletes seemed like a family atmosphere to Smith.

Smith is looking forward to interacting with the current players on his visit.

Smith plans to commit after his official visits are complete — Likely in November.

Smith wants to be an immediate contributor wherever he decides to attend.

Christian Negron: The Illinois power forward was offered by Oregon State during his official visit this past weekend. DePaul is set to get a visit on the 30th. UAB will host Negron October 13 during the Hoops On The Green event. Negron intends to sign in the early period in November.

Negron has released his Top 5 schools.

Gabe Grant: No word as to how his visit with UAB went this past weekend.

Grant posted this photo on his Instagram earlier today.
