The early signing period is inching closer (November 9-16) and the staff at UAB seems to be honing in on their key targets.
To recap, let’s first take a look at the official visit calendar.
September 24th: Makhtar Gueye
October 8th: Galin Smith
October 13th (Hoops on The Green): Christian Negron
The mutual interest between UAB and Chicago guard Elijah Joiner no longer exists.
Gabe Grant committed to Houston Thursday after visiting UAB this past weekend.
To the surprise of many, Exavian Christon committed to Louisiana Tech with out taking an official visit to Ruston or coming to Birmingham for his planned visit in October. One would have to assume location came in to play.
The interest between UAB and Larkin (IL) power forward Christian Negron has taken the next step this week. Negron has been and will continue to be one of UAB’s highest priorities in the early signing period.
As with most recruits, Negron has whittled down his list including some in-state schools and destination school’s he feels are a good fit.
Negron will take official visits to these five schools — UAB, DePaul, Oregon St., Loyola, and Bradley. Oregon St. hosted the power forward this past weekend.
New Offers (2017)
Here’s where things get interesting …
Potentially the BIGGEST diamond in the rough of the 2017 class 6-9 335 pound center Iran Bennett received a flurry of interest and offers including UAB on Thursday.
I’m not sure which direction UAB is going to go with Bennett.
Will we make a push to get him in Birmingham for an official visit before the early signing period?
Will we maintain interest now then look to increase the pressure in the spring?
All we do know is expect the unexpected with this extremely unique prospect.
On Wednesday it was tweeted out that UAB offered Clayton Hughes out of Jackson, TN / Hargrave Military. It’s worth noting Hughes was a part of the class of 2016 and originally committed to UCF. During his recruitment last fall Hughes took many visits to SEC schools and many believed he’d commit to Ole Miss.
It’s unclear at this time if UAB will get Hughes to Birmingham for an official visit before the early signing period.
Late Thursday afternoon it was made public that UAB has offered Lexington, KY point guard Taveion Hollingsworth. Per 247 Sports Louisville and West Virginia are the “warmest” in the pursuit though neither have officially offered. Hollingsworth will visit West Virginia this weekend.
Makhtar Gueye Visit
The skilled power forward will be in Birmingham this weekend for his third of five official visits. Gueye’s stock is going up faster than Apple’s when the first iPhone came out.
