If you’re weird like me and can’t wait for the UAB baseball schedule to be released, I’ve done you a favor by searching everyone’s 2017 schedule that has been released and put together a partial 2017 UAB baseball schedule.
Here is what we are looking at so far:
February 28 – vs. Troy
March 3-5 – at Georgia
March 14 – at Auburn
March 17-19 – at Western Kentucky
March 21 – vs. Alabama
March 24-26 – vs. Florida Atlantic
March 28 – vs. Samford
April 7-9 – vs. Marshall
April 11 – at Alabama
April 13-15 – at Middle Tennessee State
April 18 – at Troy
April 21-23 – at La Tech
April 28-30 – vs. Charlotte
May 2 – at Samford
May 5-7 – vs. Old Dominion
May 9 – vs. Auburn
May 12-14 – at Southern Miss
May 18-20 – vs. Rice
Two series really stand out to me on this schedule and it’s the road trip to Athens to play Georgia, and the home series to end the regular season against Rice.
I know coach Brian Shoop loves to give the kids at least one big road trip to look forward to, and I’m guessing that will be the Athens trip. The Blazers also went to Athens back in 2013.
Last year they took just one road weekend trip in out-of-conference play and that was to play Creighton at TD Ameritrade in Omaha, Neb. (home of the College World Series).
Rice is typically one of the best teams in all of baseball, so it’s always exciting when they come play UAB in Birmingham. Unfortunately, with that game being so late in the season it will probably be at Young Memorial Field (no offense) rather than Regions Field.
We have our typical home-and-home series with Alabama, Auburn, Samford and Troy. Plus I’m sure we will have the same with Jacksonville State and possibly Alabama State.
That’s 23 confirmed games, which means there are still about 32 games unaccounted for. Eighteen of those unconfirmed games will be conference games, so that leaves us with 14 out-of-conference games yet to be decided.
There are three out-of-conference weekends unaccounted for, which will be nine more games (likely at home), and then the other five games will be out-of-conference midweek games with two of those games likely being with Troy.
I know it’s way too early and UAB basketball season hasn’t even started, but once I get a taste of cold weather I start dreaming about UAB baseball under the hot sun.
I’m looking forward to a great year of UAB baseball and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the schedule looks like.
Normally the full schedule is released some time in December.
