ODU rolls in to Turkey Day coming off an emotional defensive battle with #10 Louisville last night and it was a joy for those of us who stayed up late to watch it.

The Monarchs fell to the Cardinals 68-62 in overtime largely due to their abysmal night on the charity stripe converting 15-32.

Despite the loss Jeff Jones’ crew can take a ton of positives from the game. Brandan Stith was virtually unstoppable against one of the best defensive front courts in the nation scoring 22 to go along with his 12 rebounds.

Ahmed Caver at the point appears to be just good enough to run their 344th of 351 slowest tempo offensive. It’s not the most exciting brand of basketball but it’s effective.

Zoran Talley logged just 10 minutes due to foul trouble which makes the Monarchs performance all the more impressive.

On to LSU

The Monarchs have a great opportunity to knock off their second top 100 team in the month of November.

These two teams played two Novembers ago in the Virgin Islands where ODU beat LSU 70-61. Only Denzell Taylor and Jordan Baker are left from that the team that won 27 games that season.

Expect to see more of the same from ODU on the defensive end tonight against a Tiger squad that scored just 47 points against Wichita St. last night.

LSU will want to run in transition as well as get to the rim which the Monarchs likely won’t allow any team to do this season.

Brandan Stith appeared to suffer some type of injury late in last night’s game. If he’s out or ineffective ODU will have a heck of a time containing LSU’s two  6-foot-10 forwards Duop Reath and Aaron Epps.

The first to 50 wins.
