Crazy how we only have three games left in the regular season. It always amazes me how fast the season goes by. UAB returns to Bartow Arena Sunday at high noon as they welcome the number one team in Conference USA, Middle Tennessee.
The Blue Raiders have steamrolled through conference play only suffering one loss to UTEP. A win Sunday would lock up the regular season conference title and the 1 seed in the conference tourney. UAB still has plenty to play for and would love to show CUSA they still have one more run left in them.
The Blazers won’t have to leave Birmingham for the rest of the season which could be vital to a late postseason run. UAB still has the talent to beat anyone in CUSA on any given day, it’s just a matter of what team will show up and if they can play a 40 minute game.
The Blue Raiders have a loaded roster and they will be tough to stop, but, hopefully UAB will have the home crowd on its side and they can make a difference. JaCorey Williams, Giddy Potts, and Reggie Upshaw are all studs for Middle and stopping them will be a key if the Blazers will have any success. In the previous meeting before the Blue Raiders won by 11 and held UAB under 50 points.
As crazy as it sounds I think this game will be a little closer than most think. Middle Tennessee is having a very similar season to what UAB had last year and everyone is ready to just give them the CUSA trophy. Ask UAB how that worked out for them last year. Don’t get me wrong, Middle is very talented and the best team in CUSA and deserve an at large bid in the NCAA tourney if they lose in the championship, but, they still have to come out every night and play.
UAB keeps it close but nothing I have seen over the last two weeks shows me why Middle won’t win this game.
Score Prediction: UAB 68 Middle Tennessee 75

I’ve gotten to the point where I expect us to play not so great, so if we do I’ll at least be mildly surprised.
MTSU is having the season that we thought and expected UAB would have. They have dominated pretty much everyone they have played and only lost four games to teams that were hot at the time. I expect MTSU to win the conference tournament and represent CUSA in the big dance, but I’d like to think we can spoil that party.
I have little confidence in this game even with it being at home. In all honesty this could be one of the worse losses in UAB history. If we can hit 40% of our 3s AND be able to get inside and score then we have a chance. If not, I expect us to lose by 20+.
Score Prediction: UAB 65 MTSU 78

It all comes down to this. The final three games of the season and the tournament looming. This hasn’t been the season many had hoped for, but, that still doesn’t mean you shouldn’t show up Sunday and support the team. For those people calling for Ehsan’s head, I haven’t seen you at games so your argument is invalid. He is right in line with other first year coaches.
As for the game on Sunday, MTSU comes into the game with all of the momentum on their side. They received votes in the AP top 25 poll and have looked strong all year. UAB on the other hand looks to build some momentum going into the tournament and hopefully get a better seed than what they currently sit at.
To win this game, UAB is going to have to stop Upshaw, Williams, and Potts. Also, they will have to play like they were three weeks ago when they dominated Marshall and WKU. Everything UAB puts up needs to be a good shot selection and they have to limit the silly turnovers that have plagued them. I am just not sure about this game.
Score Prediction: UAB 65 MTSU 80
