This day will be more than a basketball game. Today we have to say goodbye to an amazing group of seniors who have contributed so much to this program. They helped UAB to the most wins in a season in school history, won a regular season and conference tournament championship, beat Iowa State in the NCAA tournament, beat North Carolina, and plenty of other accomplishments.

It’s so hard to pick who has been my favorite to watch out of this group. Mehinti may not fill up a stat sheet every night, but no one can deny his unbelievable toughness and defensive abilities. He has grown so much since stepping foot on this campus.

Madison is not human. Whether he is ripping down offensive boards or cheering on his team from the bench, I have always seen him as the spark of the team. He basically carried UAB to the victory over Iowa State.

Williams has been here a short time but has made a big impact. It took him a little bit to find his rhythm, but now he fits in perfectly. His put-back dunks have been some of the best I’ve ever seen.

Baxter maybe the best on ball defender UAB has had in recent memory. He is though and never allows guys to drive right by him. Never have I seen a guard get so many rebounds.

Watts had his year shaken up but never complained one bit. He is the ultimate team player. He went from red-shirting to being needed back at guard in a second and he stepped up. Now I wish he had another year because he has really hit his stride this season.

As far as this game goes, I think UAB puts their demons behind them and wins this handily.

Everyone needs to be in Bartow tonight to honor the seniors.

Well the regular season finale is here. After an roller coaster year UAB’s regular season comes to an end Saturday night as they host the Panthers of Florida International. FIU upset the Blazers earlier in the year 94-85 so you can bet UAB will be looking for a little revenge to end the season. I still have no idea how FIU won that game earlier in the year.

Most importantly though, Saturday night is senior night and UAB will say goodbye to five seniors who have left an incredible mark on this basketball program. Tyler Madison, Dirk Williams, Denzell Watts, Tosin Mehinti, and Hakeem Baxter all will play their last game in Bartow Arena. These guys have rewritten the UAB record books, won a C-USA tournament championship, a C-USA regular season championship, and busted brackets in 2014. Saturday night will be there night.

These seniors are going to be missed and will be hard to replace in the years to come. A huge 3-pointer from Zelly Buckets, an offensive rebound or charge from Tyler Madison, Hakeem Baxter locking down the other teams best player, Tosin Mehinti being a force in the paint, and Dirk Williams with a put-back dunk or corner three. (Death, Taxes, Dirk Williams!). This is what the UAB fans will miss from this bunch of seniors. No matter what happens the rest of the season they can hold their heads high.

FIU will not be playing in the C-USA tournament which starts next Wednesday so this will be their last game of the season. UAB played a pretty decent game Thursday night against the Owls of FAU and they will look to carry that momentum into Saturday night. The regular season comes to an end for C-USA Saturday night then all eyes will turn to the BJCC next week to see what team will be cutting down the nets. UAB should win this one and the seniors should go out with a win.
