The lack of confidence in #theReturn of UAB football continues as the media picked the Blazers to finish last in the Conference USA West division.

In all honesty, you can’t blame the media or anyone for doubting UAB. They haven’t played a real game in over two years, and no one really knows what this team will look like.

But as for us UAB football fans, we believe this team is capable of surprising a lot of teams this year.

Coach Clark did a great job of bringing in a lot of very good JUCO talent that has college experience. That will go a long way in helping this team come together quickly.

UAB draws Middle Tennessee and Charlotte from the East. The 49ers were picked by the media to finish last in the East, so that is a good draw for the Blazers.

Western Kentucky and La Tech were picked to finish first in their respective divisions, with each receiving 20 first place votes.

Middle Tennessee was picked second in the East with four first place votes, Old Dominion was third with three votes and Marshall was fourth with one vote. Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Charlotte round out the East division in that order.

In the West, UTSA was picked second with seven first place votes and Southern Miss was picked third with one vote. North Texas, Rice, UTEP and UAB is the rest of the projected order in the West.

Last year the last place team in both divisions had just two conference wins. UAB gets Rice and UTEP at home in what will be winnable games late in the year when the team is gelling together. They have to play Charlotte on the road, but I think the Blazers can get a win there as well making three Conference USA wins very manageable.

Conference USA media days starts today (Wednesday), so stay tuned to The Daily Dragon for more updates.
