Well the time is almost here. In two weeks football will officially be back at UAB. The Blazers are set to return to the field and face Alabama A&M, ending a two year drought from Division 1 football.
Excitement is at an all-time high, and UAB just recently announced a three year partnership with Bruno Event Team. This will help with fan experience on gameday and and hopefully make an impression on the casual fan as well.
Since The Daily Dragon is all things UAB, we thought we’d try our hand and see what are the best things to do on gameday at UAB so here goes.
Eat Local Barbecue
Depending on the game time, fans should have plenty of time to grab a bite before heading to the Ole Gray Lady and what better to eat than barbecue in Birmingham. Dreamland, Saws (best in town), Full Moon, Jim-n-Nicks, the list goes on-and-on. These are places that not only the UAB faithful can enjoy, but people from the opposing teams traveling from out of town must try before the weekend is over. A classic pork sandwich with a side, a slab of ribs, and banana pudding for dessert — you can’t go wrong eating barbecue in Birmingham.
Tailgate at The Ole Gray Lady
UAB has a unique home stadium, with a lot of history included. Unlike most college campuses, the main tailgating for UAB will be directly outside of Legion Field instead of throughout the college campus. With many places in the parking lot, you probably need to arrive a little earlier to secure a spot to set up shop. Make sure to get your burgers, hot dogs, and best dip and make your tailgate the welcome for all fans. With so many places throughout Birmingham, UAB doesn’t really have a place that most fans hang out before the game. The best bet to interact with fellow Blazers fans will be outside of Legion Field before kickoff.
What better way to welcome the team enter the stadium? The first BlazerWalk on September 2 will be one you do not want to miss. Join the band, cheerleaders, Blaze, and many other UAB fans as the team makes it way to the stadium. BlazerWalk is a great opportunity for the fan to get to be apart of gameday with the Blazers. Whether you give Coach Clark a high five, or tell your favorite player good luck, it is something that you do not want to miss.
UAB has a very unique gameday experience with its stadium not on campus, and really not much around Legion Field. The partnership with the Bruno Event team will help make sure things are ran smoothly, and hopefully they have some new ideas ready for the fans come September 2.
With this being #theReturn, I’m sure more great gameday traditions will be brought back and new ones created. We want to hear from you, how do you spend your gamedays at UAB? Give us your reply in the comments below, or on Twitter (@The_DailyDragon).
