An already impressive and possibly historical class consisting of three-star forwards Jude Akabueze and Tamell Pearson just got much stronger with the addition of 6-foot-5 forward Ryan Boyce.
With no real concrete rankings of recruits prior to the 2000’s, it’s hard to say if UAB’s 2018 class could be one of the program’s best ever. However, in recent years, our strongest class on paper was in 2014 when William Lee and Lewis Sullivan were widely regarded as a four and three-star.
With all that being said, one thing we know for sure is the future is extremely bright for UAB basketball behind Rob Ehsan and staff’s fantastic recruiting efforts, and none may be bigger than the signing of Ryan Boyce who is rated as a four star by ESPN.
Boyce’s recruitment has taken some interesting turns in the past month when he narrowed down his list to Florida and SMU, but shortly after he re-opened his recruitment. I imagine that’s when we went all in and ultimately landed one of our highest graded players in the last decade.
As we’ve mentioned before, the departure of William Lee and Chris Cokley in 2018 gave Ehsan and staff a chance to bring in fresh faces, and they are doing just that with this trio of talented forwards. By my count all of our scholarships for 2018 are taken so it’ll be interesting to see if we do some things to free up some space before signing day.
