Here are The Daily Dragon’s staff predictions for the week seven game against Middle Tennessee at Legion Field on Saturday.

Dave West

UAB finds itself in a new position and how they handle it may just decide the rest of the season goes. Media and others are now predicting UAB to beat one of the better conference teams which is a wild scenario. If we can play disciplined, sound football like we did against Tech UAB should come away with another win. There are few if any areas of the game that I think Middle Tennessee has been better than UAB in this season. Despite likely starting their backup quarterback expect the Blue Raiders to air it out early and often. Stopping or at least slowing down their pass game is the key to victory.

Prediction: MTSU 21 UAB 30

Russell Brasseale

We enter the week six seven season of college football and UAB plays host to the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee. The Blazers come off a thrilling victory against Louisiana Tech while Middle Tennessee defeated Florida International last week. UAB put themselves right in the middle of the conversation about the CUSA championship and can continue to prove the haters wrong with a win this weekend. What stood out to me last week was how UAB came out with a ton of energy and kept their foot on the gas when they had the ball on offense. Credit the bye week for getting UAB some much needed rest, but I would love to see them come out with the same energy this week. AJ Erdely has been an absolute baller and some of the throws he has made have been a thing of beauty. Andre Wilson has stepped up big the last couple of weeks at receiver and Spencer Brown is a grown man already. The defense has slowly improved every week and when the secondary is fully healthy you could argue it is one of the conference’s best. The Blue Raiders have had kind of an up and down season. They beat Syracuse, got destroyed by Minnesota, lose to FAU, and then beat FIU last week. The offense can put up points and John Urzua can sling it. Getting off the field on third down will once again be key for UAB. With the win last week, UAB showed everyone that they are here to win now and can play with anybody in this league. I predicted before the season that this would be a loss, but Middle Tennessee hasn’t really impressed me as much as I thought they would so far this season. This will be another close game and should be interesting the whole way. UAB stays unbeaten in Birmingham.

Prediction: UAB 31 MTSU 28

Jake Mastroianni

I really like what I saw from the offense against La Tech, and hopefully the coaching staff carries that game plan into the MTSU game on Saturday. However, I am concerned with how well that offense will do against MTSU’s defense. They have one of the best defenses in Conference USA, which so did La Tech. But they’ve now had a chance to see what we did against La Tech and how to defend it. It will be huge for UAB if MTSU wide receiver Richie James misses this game. I’m also concerned with how UAB refocuses after a drama filled homecoming game against La Tech. Those types of games normally lead to let down games the week after. I don’t doubt that UAB is good enough to win this game, but they’re going to have to play a near flawless game to do so.

Prediction: MTSU – 31 UAB -24
