Here are The Daily Dragon’s staff predictions for the week 10 game at home against Rice.

Russell Brasseale

UAB returns home to face Rice, Rice Baby with a chance to become bowl eligible. The Owls sit at 1-7 and are coming off a 42-28 loss to La Tech. The Blazers already know that records mean nothing and they should not take the Owls lightly. UAB went into Southern Miss and completely dominated the second half after being down 12-7. Spencer Brown broke Jordan Howard’s freshmen rushing yards record and the defense turned in it’s best performance of the season. Rain is in the forecast on Saturday, but this can not be another letdown for UAB. They must come out with energy and not beat themselves. Costly turnovers, penalties, and mental mistakes can’t happen against teams like this. I know games are not played on paper, but this is a game where UAB should blow Rice out. It’s not running up the score when you are just playing your game, and they aren’t stopping it. Before the season I predicted UAB would return home against Rice and would become bowl eligible with three weeks to play and be 6-3, so why would I change that now? I think a lot of people are kind of underplaying how big of a deal this is for the Blazers, but getting to a bowl game in the programs first year back after being shut down is absolutely remarkable. UAB should win this, and it really shouldn’t be close. The Blazers continue #theReturn by becoming bowl eligible this Saturday.

Prediction: UAB 35 Rice 10

It’s the first week of November and UAB is in a position to become bowl eligible — what a time. I think once the season is over we’ll look back at the Charlotte game as a turning point for this team. That game reminded us to appreciate and value every win and take every opponent seriously. Offensively UAB should find some success, but do not be surprised if we are stymied on some drives. Rice’s defense has it’s moments, and their linebackers are pretty darn good. Then again, this may be the game UAB puts a complete offensive game together fueled by the home crowd and the bowl eligibility story line. Offensively Rice shouldn’t ever reach the end zone if we play like we did against Southern Miss. They have one of nation’s worst offenses and they don’t do much of anything particularly well. I will say their quarterback does have the ability to hurt us with his legs, so we’ll need to be on our lane assignments all night.

Prediction: UAB 30 Rice 3

Jake Mastroianni

This certainly has been a great season for UAB football any way you want to look at how it has gone. A lot of people were predicting UAB to struggle and win only a few games, but here we stand in week 10 with a chance to get our sixth win and become bowl eligible. The key to winning this game is no different than the game at Charlotte, but we also saw what can happen when you don’t execute against a team like Charlotte. UAB has to play disciplined football on defense, and not let off the gas on offense. Plain and simple, we are just a better team than Rice, and it’s time we play like it and blow someone out. In front of our home crowd I don’t see this team having another letdown like it did at Charlotte. The Blazers cruise to their sixth win of the season.

Prediction: UAB 34 Rice 10
