UAB never trailed beating a solid UTSA team 24-19 in San Antonio and locking up second place in the Conference USA western division

It looked like UAB was going to run away with this game coming out of the second half but the Roadrunners showed a lot of fight holding UAB to just three points in the final two quarters. A.J. Erdely had been one of the best in the country in taking care of the ball but UTSA got two timely turnovers when they intercepted Erdely and caused him to fumble in the third quarter. Despite a valiant effort from Dalton Sturm the Blazer defense made enough plays late to come away with the win.

Garret Marino Is A Terror

All the offseason training paid off for Marino who was blowing up the offensive line and causing terror in the Roadrunner backfield all night. He and Stacy Keely have become quite the duo on the edges complimenting our deep interior defensive line group. Marino’s three tackles for loss, sack, and constant penetration makes him the defensive MVP in our eyes.

Passing For 49 Yards Isn’t Great

Who would have thought UAB could walk away with a win in San Antonio passing for under 50 yards. When you have Spencer Brown and A.J. Erdely scorching the earth with their feet you can’t complain too much. Give a lot of credit to Donnie Lee who is getting involved in the air and on the ground and has become a fantastic run blocker.

Spencer Brown Is Chasing History.

Not only is he approaching the C-USA freshman rushing record he is also in hot pursuit of Jordan Howard’s single season record of 1,659. With three games to play Brown has 1,163 yards and would need to average 156 yards per game to break Howard’s record.
