UAB will take on Ohio out of the MAC this Friday in the Bahamas Bowl. Here are some things you should be watching for in this game.
It’s been a truly special year for freshman running back Spencer Brown. And while he’s probably not going to reach Jordan Howard’s single season mark of 1,587 yards this year, there will definitely be some heat on that record in 2018. He will however have a realistic chance of setting Conference USA’s single season freshman rushing record if he can break the 100 yard mark. Either way, I hope to get one last look at Brown as a freshman and hope to see him go off for 150-plus yards. He’s a fun running back to watch, and I’m glad the whole country will get a look on Friday.
Specifically watch for Tevin Crews and Shaq Jones to leave their mark on this program with a special bowl performance. If I’m Ohio, I’m seriously worried about facing a rested UAB defense that has been dominant against run-heavy teams. Crews and Jones will be key in this game as they’ll be tasked with marking Ohio’s mobile quarterback who will be testing them on the edges.
Surely Les Koenning has been cooking up some new looks for UAB’s offense that Ohio will be unprepared for. UAB fans have not been shy in their displeasure in Koenning’s play calling this season, but a creative and effective game plan on Friday that leads to timely points could quiet the naysayers. Prove em’ wrong Les!
We hope everyone enjoys the bowl game on Friday. And win or lose, there will be UAB football in 2018, and that’s something we all can be thankful for.
