Rayam follows Thomas Johnston’s lead and continues the trend of Alabama’s top linebackers coming to UAB.
It was a perfect storm. UAB was Rayam’s last visit, former Blazer Jake Ganus was his linebacker coach at Thompson, and the recent momentum and buzz around the program helped UAB to again bring home one of the top linebackers in the state.
UAB made quite the push this past weekend securing two three star local recruits from the area in CD Daniels from Homewood and now Jalen Rayam out of Thompson. Bill Clark and staff have made a priority to make sure the players in our area understand the difference they can make in our program.
Rayam had visited Lane Kiffin and FAU last weekend as well as an in home with Kiffin this past week but it was UAB that ultimately convinced the talented defender to come to the Southside and be a part of something special.
Able to play inside linebacker or out at the next level, Rayam registered 143 tackles, including 28 for loss, along with 7.5 sacks and four interceptions as a senior in 2017. His efforts led to an All-Star selection followed by the chance to represent the state in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game in December.
