The Blazers fell in both previous meetings at the Thomas Assembly Center but look to change that trend on Thursday.

For the first time since the 2014-15 season, UAB and La Tech will meet for a second game during conference play. UAB beat the Bulldogs in Birmingham a month ago 74-62 with out their starting point guard DeQuan Bracey.

It’s been a season of roster shake up for La Tech as they’ve had Bracey out for six games and their starting wing Jalen Harris left the team in December. Last week the Bulldogs lost a key piece in the front court when Joniah White had to cease playing basketball because of a health reason. Needless to say they are shell of what they were in November when they got off to a hot 6-1 start.

Scouting the Bulldogs

Tomorrow I’d expect a starting line up similar to the one pictured but with Bracey getting the start at point guard over Archibald. In our last outing against the Bulldogs Jacobi Boykins came out hot hitting three 3-pointers to start the game. Boykins had 20 points in their home loss to ODU on Saturday and he’ll likely be their go to option again tomorrow.

With the recent news of UAB going forward with out two of their reserve guards it’s going to be critical that Scootie, Nate, and Nick defend with out fouling. That’s going to be easier said than done as La Tech has what I think are the most physical guards in the conference.

UAB will have a clear advantage in the post with Joniah White being gone and Oliver Powell left to defend Chris Cokley. Powell is a wet behind the ears sophomore who will have his hands full with one of the most polished bigs in the conference.

3 Keys to Blazer Victory

  1. I would love nothing more than UAB to not even attempt a shot from outside the paint in the first five minutes. Feed Cokley early and often and the floor will open up.
  2. I could see this game getting away from us if our guards get in early foul trouble. I normally don’t like us in the zone but that may be our best option early.
  3. The upperclassmen have never won in Ruston. We’ll need an inspiring performance from that group who know they let one get away there two years ago.
